Headmaster & Vice Rector
Don Bosco, Perambur is the fulfillment of a dream that several visionaries of the Salesian Society had. Late Mgr. Louis Mathias, former Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore was the one who pioneered Salesian work in Tamil Nadu as a whole and Chennai in particular. It was his dream that North Chennai where many poor people lived should have a Don Bosco School. Very Rev.Fr. John Med S.D.B the then Salesian Provincial sent Rev. Fr.S.Thomas S.D.B. of happy memory to start this school in 1963. Rev Fr. V.C. Jacob SDB was his assistant. The beginning as very humble; they had to sleep on the floor with a mat and had only kerosene lamps for illumination. The school began with Stds VI to IX and slowly it grew from strength to strength. In 1965, Rev. Fr. Benedict Vadacherry SDB took over as Headmaster.
The school took shape with an imposing building which was declared open by the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. C.N. Annadurai in 1967. Our school was one of the first schools in the city to have a P.T.A. which began on 26th January 1969.The Headmasters, who followed, built on the foundations laid by Fr. S. Thomas and Fr. Benedict. The formation of the head, heart and hand, a wholesome personality, was insisted upon. Co-curricular activities to bring out the various talents of the students were also given attention especially during the period of Rev. Fr. C.A. Bout S.D.B. as Headmaster. The Past Pupil's Association in the school was also begun by him on 8th December 1972.
English medium sections of the Primary school were closed step by step since the parish church opened a school in the church compound. As the school grew in numbers, sections were added to each standard. English medium section was also added. When Higher Secondary (Junior College) was introduced in the State, Rev. Fr. V.T. Sebastian S.D.B introduced it in the school with 6 sections and several P.G. Posts were also sanctioned by education department. Increased intake in the English medium (106 in standard VI in 1977) forced Fr. Sebastian to move heaven and earth to get a second section sanctioned. He was also able to convince the Provincial and the other superiors that there should be a Salesian Community's presence in the school itself and so the boarding and aspirantate were begun.
No words can sufficiently express the gratitude we owe to the many friends who have contributed to make this dream come true. Don Bosco Private School was opened in the same premises. When Rev. Fr. Ittyachan Manjil S.D.B. was the Correspondent and Rev. Fr. V.T. Sebastian S.D.B. was the Headmaster an auditorium and extra class rooms now located at the western end of the campus were built.
They succeeded in getting on a rental basis the adjacent enemy property for the use of the school as a play ground. Soon the auditorium itself was converted into class rooms.
